Personal Hygiene in Difficult Times

12:56 AM

If you've been thinking about how you'll stock up on enough pads or tampons to last you the apocalypse, it's time to start thinking about something else.

And yes, if you're a dude, this is a post for the ladies and their monthly friend. Fair warning.

As El Borak notes on a regular basis, you can't stock up on things forever. At some point, you're going to have to learn how to change. You're going to have to learn how to adjust your thinking, your lifestyle, and your way of doing things.

For girls, step 1 is going to be making the switch to cloth cotton pads instead of regular, store-bought, super-bleached pads. If you don't want to mess with creating your own pads, you can buy them online through GladRags or at Etsy.com. A lot of stay-at-home moms make their own pads and sell them online. They're typically listed as "mama cloth" or "cloth pads."

If you don't want to pay for someone else to make your personal hygiene items, it's time to start getting creative. You can use your sewing machine for the fastest results, but during long-term power outages it's going to be easier to do it by hand if you only have an electric sewing machine.

If you're ready to make your own, the best part is that you can easily modify any pattern to fit your body and lifestyle. You can find tutorials at Sleeping Baby or Downsizer.
